#freethefish

This fish deserves freedom, damnit.

Image doesn’t reflect actual status of fish, it looks much more profesh by now.

Non-3D-Printed Parts

These are the guts you’ll need to complete this project. Wire connectors can be swapped out for soldering know-how if you want to live on the edge.

Original BMBB Fish Skin

“Fileting” instructions found here.

Original BMBB Mouth Motor Gearbox

You’ll need this to make your message heard.

The tail motor, plastic assembly and most other things can go.

Original BMBB Speaker
(or two)

This is by far the most important piece. Keep it close to you. Preserve it. Love it. Buy other fish. Preserve their speakers. Become a true monster like I am.
Or, look at alternatives here.

Raspberry Pi Zero W

The primary “lizard brain” of our creation.||

We don’t need much thinkin’, so a Pi Zero will do. Don’t break the bank.

Adafruit CRICKIT Hat

Allows the Pi to accommodate more fish-related needs.

A sort of ‘neocortex’ for the Pi Zero.

Buck Converter (Step-Dn) Module

Don’t fry that fish! Instructions for setting the voltage incoming.

DRV8833 Motor Controller

For mouth motor real-time control.

As of 4/5/23, still a work in progress.

MG90S Servo Motor

Have a tail? Never fail.

2x 18650 (Li-ion) Batteries

The power source of our sea-beast. Rechargeable, and when two are placed in series, more than powerful enough for our needs.

Buy more for more laughs on the geaux.

Sound Detector Module

What makes “auto-babble” possible.

As of 4/5/23 still a work in progress. It WILL work, however, fuck the haters.

…there aren’t many.

5V Relay Module

Allows the switch from vocal auto-babble to instant-on button mouth control.

Neopixels
(Breadboard- friendly)

What beautiful eyes you have.

Nuts ‘n’ Bolts

These are the secondary parts, and supplies you’ll need. Most if not all are necessary.

M2.5 bolts

For securing our board stack to our base pieces.

M2.5 nuts

Same here, just hardware for making a secure, stable fish.

M2.5 stand-offs

Stop asking about the M2.5 stuff already, you’re gonna get the same answer.

Hot glue gun

Pretty obvious what the purpose of this is.

JST connectors

For making our modules click together in such an oh-so-satisfying way.

GPIO F->F Connectors

For pin-to-pin connections that don’t require JST-ification.

10V 4700μF Capacitor

Smooths out our voltage so we don’t get any nasty spikes that fry our many components.

Wire connectors

If you know how to solder, you may be able to ditch these. If you don’t, they’re indispensable.
